Historique :	Henri II, roi de France, est mort en 1559 et Catherine de Médicis, son épouse, est morte en 1589. Dans l'intérieur de la chapelle des Valois devaient être placées de nombreuses statues religieuses et funéraires. Deux nouvelles effigies d'Henri II et de Catherine de Médicis furent commandées à Germain Pilon en 1583.
