Historique :	Clovis Ier (vers 466-511), roi des Francs saliens puis roi de tous les Francs de 481 à 511. Issu de la dynastie des Mérovingiens, il est le fils de Childéric Ier, roi des Francs saliens de Tournai, et de la reine Basine de Thuringe. L'Œuvre provient de l'abbaye de Sainte-Geneviève à Paris dont il est le fondateur. Le tombeau fut rétabli en 1656 par Michel Bourdin fils et on peut supposer que le gisant primitif fut alors restauré. D'apèrs le costume et le style, cette statue daterait du 13e siècle, mais la tombe ayant été restituée en 1627, il est possible, à considérer la lourdeur de la facture, que cette Œuvre ne soit qu'une copie, exécutée d'après l'original mis au rebut.
